Ride along Karatu’s many high ridges and traverse the fire road rimming the lush outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater passing elephant and buffalo trails through the dense woods. This ride includes an Iraqw Cultural Experience where guests explore a traditional underground house and learn about traditions old and new. Drive through private coffee fields and acacia stands to arrive at a fully formed breathtaking crater hundreds of feet deep. Walk a short distance to reach the rim and enjoy a picnic lunch with majestic views of Mt. Meru before returning to Arusha Coffee Lodge. 9:00 am - 3:30 pm (Max 6 bikes + 3 passengers) $230/bike + $100/adult or $75/child passenger
Once kids aged 6-16 have “coached” mom and dad through the quad bike training and waved them off, a fun adventure of their own awaits. They’ll enjoy discovering what it’s like to live like a traditional Maasai. Each child gets a hand at supervised activities like throwing a spear or club, shooting a bow and arrow, painting their own Maasai shield and stringing beads. Each child will go home with their own Maasai shuka, shield or jewelry and lots of stories to tell their friends and relatives back home. Includes kids wood fired pizza and drink for lunch or dinner. This is a great way to keep kids entertained while mom and dad are on a 1, 2 or 3-hour ride. $60 for the first child $45 for each additional child.
We also have a complimentary I.B.E.S. playground with swings, slide and climbing walls, volleyball, badminton, football, croquet, hammock, and a playhouse for the kids.
Riders must be 16+ years of age with a valid driver's license for their country of residence to drive the quad bikes. Passengers must be 12+ years of age. Child passengers are 12-16 years old. All participants MUST sign a waiver and all minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or LEGAL guardian. All rides have a minimum of 2 people except the Lake Eyasi Ride which has a minimum of 2 bikes.

Depending upon the location & route, you may visit a local farm, stop to explore a traditional underground house or discover a hidden crater on the outskirts of town. The ancient volcanic foothills of Ngorongoro and Mt. Meru provide the perfect opportunity to "Drive Yourself to Explore" the sights, sounds and culture of TZ! Offered at 9:00 am and 1:30 pm. Drive through local farms climbing up the foothills of Ngorongoro to a picturesque coffee estate to enjoy an introduction to coffee farming and views all the way to the Lake Manyara escarpment. Enjoy a walking coffee tour that takes you from farm to cup and delight in a picnic lunch surrounded by nature. 1/2 day activity beginning at 8:30 am or 11:30 am (Max 6 bikes + 3 passengers) $205 per bike + $100/adult or $75/child passenger.

This ride passes through the centre of Karatu near the central market, the butchers, the Maasai ladies selling honey and the carpenters’ and tailors’ shops. It then climbs one of the tallest hills in Karatu to overlook the town with views of Lake Manyara and the setting sun West of Ngorongoro. 5:30-730 pm (Max 5 bikes + 3 passengers) $120/bike + $75/adult or $65/child passenger
LAKE EYASI RIDE (Karatu only)
This is an experience you'll be telling your kids and grandkids about. Hopping on the quad bikes in Karatu, you'll drive to remote Mang'ola to visit the Hadzabe, a hunter gatherer tribe, and their blacksmith neighbors, the Datoga. You'll enjoy lunch along the shores of Lake Eyasi or its tributaries depending upon the season. Please book early, as this is our most popular ride. 7:00 am - 4:00 pm (Min. 2 bikes/Max 5 bikes + 3 passengers) $275/bike + $100/adult or $75/child passenger
ALL DAY RIDE & HIKE (Karatu only)
This adventure-packed day includes a 3-hour quad bike ride, lunch at Gibbs Farm, and a 2+ hour hike within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area boundaries along elephant trails up to a picturesque waterfall and collapsed hillside which attracts animals nightly because of the salt and minerals in the soil and the nearby stream. 9:00 am-4:00 pm. “Drive Yourself to Explore” through private coffee fields and acacia stands following a river fed by runoff from Mt. Meru past local farms & village scenes. This is a great mini adventure. (Max 6 bikes + 3 passengers) $105/bike + $75/adult or $65/child passenger First ride begins at 8:30 am. Last ride begins at 3:30 pm.

Upon your arrival, we offer you all the accessories to thoroughly enjoy your outdoor recreational activities: overalls, handkerchief, boots, and helmet. You'll participate in a safety briefing and orientation before getting comfortable on our practice course and embarking on your ride.
4WTZ has single rider quad bikes and bikes that will accommodate 1 passenger each over the age of 12 years.
4 Wheeling Tanzania offers quad bike/ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) rides and activities near Ngorongoro from its Recreation Center in Karatu and in the vicinity of Mt. Meru with rides departing from the Arusha Coffee Lodge.
Activities in Karatu take place with the scenic forest of Ngorongoro as a back drop set against expanses of coffee farms and local shambas. Exploring Mt. Meru's locale you'll find acacia stands, village scenes, coffee fields and vast vistas.
